George “Woody” Thompson, Jr., a resident of Cobb County since 1956, received his B.S. degree in Business Administration from West Georgia College in 1968. He is a licensed real estate broker, (Thompson Realty Advisors, LLC), a member of the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors and a graduate of the Realtors Institute.
Additionally, Woody is a graduate of the 1987 class of Leadership Cobb and the 1999 class of the Regional Leadership Institute. As Cobb County Commissioner for District 4 (1997-2004), he completed the Certified County Commissioner program in 2000 and the Advanced Commissioner program in 2003.
Woody has been active in numerous business and civic organizations over the years and is currently a board member of Cobb County Habitat for Humanity, President of the South Cobb Business Association, and a member of the Marietta Kiwanis Club. He is an Elder and Chairman of the Board of Southwest Christian Church.

Woody and his wife Betsy have been married for 34 years and have two adult daughters, Susan Thompson of Los Angeles, California and Laura Miller of Arlington, Virginia. Their son, Brian, passed away in February 2007.
